Hi Friend! I'm Brittney and I'm so glad you're here. I'm a Los Angeles native, passionate about seeing this generation live wholeheartedly with purpose. While in the study of Psychology and research assisting at UCLA, I help raise mental health awareness to reduce stigma and assist with helpful information at the intersection of faith, culture and mental health, while having some fun along the way. Still my favorite part of life is being called mommy to my sweet 10 year old boy, Austin.

When I first started really talking about the inte

When I first started really talking about the intersection of faith and mental health online, there were years of unseen battles prior to ever speaking about it more publicly.

Years of sitting with loved ones in my church and young adult ministry who were in crisis over and over again and trying to figure out what I was missing.

Years of saying all the wrong things before I learned how to hold space for the autonomy of others to heal in their own timing.

Years of others sitting with me when I found myself starting my life over as a single mom emerging from a deep battle with anxiety and feeling a loss of control over my life.

Years of reading every book I could get my hands on about all the dynamics and terminology of mental health before I decided to go back to school and ever imagined that would lead me to studies and research at UCLA.

Then I started blogging more about my experience with mental health challenges and what I was learning as it related to my faith. And I started getting a flood of feedback about how validating and helpful some of those words were for a lot of people who felt alone and misunderstood in their own mental health journey.

Quotes started going viral. I received opportunities to write more. To speak more. To sit with more people. My perspective expanded and I overcame a lot of fears that came with showing up in a new capacity.

My goal has always been to create a safe space of compassion and understanding, centered in a love for neighbor. I want to see everyone find the freedom of healing no matter their belief or background because mental health challenges don’t discriminate and every life matters.

So today I’m thankful for the journey.
Im thankful for the road ahead because I know there’s still so much work to do- personally and publicly.
I’m thankful for my community here that’s so kind and supportive, eager to learn and willing to share your stories.

I know 2020 has been a challenging year to say the least. And this day may look different for many of us. But Im believing some of our best days are still ahead of us. I hope you’ll believe with me ❤️ #happythanksgivng

All day mood. After spending the day finally sorting out the research design and measures for my thesis around childhood trauma and anxiety spectrum disorder, I’m beginning the work on my introduction- and the extra clarity alone has been a win for the day. 🙌🏽

It’s been baby steps, but forward is still forward and something to keep in mind when you realize this type of work will be a marathon and not a sprint.

So here we are, doing the work and seeing where it takes us 🤓

There are A LOT of voices online. Like sometimes,

Be authentic…but you shouldn’t say that.

It’s okay to be imperfect…but we also quickly cancel people when those imperfections come out.

Vote this way…no, you’d vote that way if you’re truly a believer of these things.

Love your neighbor no matter the differences…while also grouping them into demonizing categories once they share a view contrary to your own.

It’s no WONDER people are paralyzed with anxiety and are having trouble finding their own voice or knowing how to show up in today’s world.

We cannot cannot please everyone on the internet.
I’m sure that for every personal view I hold there are tons of people who vehemently see it another way.
I’m sure for every interpretation of scripture I hold, there are tons of people who strictly interpret it another way.
You could even be neutral and people will chastise you for not speaking up on this or that.

I personally don’t engage in things online that I know are not going to be fruitful, when I can instead be putting that focus into the work that I know has the potential to have a more lasting impact.

And when we don’t take those mental breathers to pause, to sit with God and your own soul and get clear on your priorities, convictions and boundaries you might feel yourself getting lost in the voices and withdrawing from showing up even in the areas you know you’re passionate about. And it’s just no way to live.

We can love people and hear people out without being sourced in people for our identity.

So ask yourself:
- What are you priorities?
- What is the work you’re currently passionate about most of all?
- What is your main goal?
- What are the areas you believe you can have the most impact in that are worth your time? (Maybe it is online or blogging, maybe its at your church, or in your family or community).

Write these down so you clearly understand where your boundaries are from other little distractions that eat away at your focus and energy and time that could be used more purposefully.
